  • UCLA football passes its way past UNLV

  • PASADENA >> Old offenses die hard for the UCLA football team. After spending the offseason preaching physicality in a power-running offense, the Bruins resurrected shades of their old spread offense to tally their first win of the season, a 42-21 victory over UNLV on Saturday at the Rose Bowl. Through three quarters, UCLA threw the ball 57.1 percent of the time against UNLV. By the end of the game, 15 different receivers had at least one reception. Although the new offense was expected to put quarterback Josh Rosen under center more, he took 13 of the team’s first 14 snaps from the shotgun after the Bruins mounted their 15-point comeback against Texas A&M last week while operating out of the shotgun. After UNLV answered UCLA’s first touchdown with one of its own, Rosen led the Bruins to another scoring drive, using almost every tool in his kit. He started the drive with a completion to Brandon Stephens, ran 10 yards to pick up a first down, and sealed the edge on Soso Ja,ucla football parking passes, ucla football player passes away, ucla football season passes ...ادامه مطلب

  • UNLV's Patrick McCaw among 12 who work out for Clippers

  • PLAYA VISTA >> The closest UNLV’s Patrick McCaw has gotten to NBA players was two summers ago when the Clippers spent a portion of their fall camp on his college campus. “I said ‘What’s up?’ to DeAndre (Jordan) and Blake (Griffin) in the weight room. But that’s pretty much it,” said McCaw, a star guard for the Rebels. “These are the guys you do crazy stuff with on (NBA) 2K (video game) and to run alongside them or play against them, it’s just hard to believe.” Harder still could be landing that coveted spot in the NBA draft. McCaw, along with UNLV teammate Stephen Zimmerman and 10 other hopefuls worked out for the Clippers on Monday in an effort to impress coaches and scouts in the remaining three days. McCaw is viewed as a late first-round or early second-round pick. The Clippers own the 25th and 33rd picks in Thursday’s draft. “It’s been crazy,” McCaw said. “I’ve always been that underdog and now that my name has been talked about and that I’m on the rise, it’s kind of crazy to hear.” At 6-foot-6, McCaw is considered to possess great size for an NBA shooting guard. He’s also athletic and capable of playing lockdown defense, especially on the perimeter. McCaw averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals last season for the Rebels. He also shot 36.6 percent from the 3-point range. When McCaw showed up at the Clippers’ training center, he was surprised to see the 7-foot Zimmerman, his teammate who declared for the draft after one college season. “It was nice to see a familiar face,” said McCaw, who like most draftees have participated in nearly a dozen workouts around the country. Zimmerman’s size has landed him on many mock drafts as a late first-round pick. Still, many scouts believe the 19-year-old could have benefited from another year in college. Zimmerman said he decided to jump to the next level after UNLV fired Coach Dave Rice in January. Zimmerman averaged 10.5 points and 8.7 rebounds in his lone season for the Rebels. “I was already on the dra, ...ادامه مطلب
