PLAYA VISTA >> Seeing Chris Paul in ruing shoes and sweatpants before a Clippers practice certainly isn’t good news. And, seeing Paul, the Clippers’ star point guard, standing in ruing shows and sweats with hand wrapped, well that means the news is certainly worse. Luckily for the Clippers, appearances can sometime be deceiving. While Paul didn’t practice Sunday because of his hand injury, he’s not expected to miss any real time. Paul’s officially being called “day-to-day” with a sprained left thumb, an injury he likely would be able to play with if the Clippers were in the regular season. “He’ll play in definitely one of the two (remaining preseason games), and that tells you it’s not that ...

Martin Truex Jr. took the lead with 28 laps to go and held off Kevin Harvick on the final restart to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Southe 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night. He led 214 of 367 laps but this run was cut short by slow pit stops. At one point, Harvick fell 11 spots from first to 12th after a super slow 16.6-second stop. He battled back toward the top, but could not chase down Truex. Last week’s wier at Michigan, Kyle Larso...

If he continues along his current path, and becomes the next Ken Griffey Jr., this catch will be the perfect link between the two. As memorable and appropriate as Trout’s grand-slam robbing catch on Griffey’s weekend was, Trout probably won’t want to remember the rest of his performance in the Angels’ 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, his 25th birthday. Trout struck out four times for only the fourth time in his career, and the first time that a single pitcher has punched him out all four times. James Paxton, a 27-year-o...
