Prep roundup: Long Beach Wilson girls golf wins Moore League

The Wilson High girls golf team clinched its eighth consecutive Moore League team title by beating Long Beach Poly 221-247 on Tuesday at Recreation Park Golf Course. Wilson (17-4, 8-0) was once again led by senior Ali Morallos, who made one birdie and finished at 1-over-par 39. Riley Henry added a round of 43 for the Bruins that included four pars, and Maya Olson was the low finisher for Poly with 45.

“We continue to be blessed with a group of dedicated players that are always putting in extra work to make sure they are prepared for competition,” Wilson coach Jeff Evans said.

Monday is the first day of the Moore League Individual Tournament, where Morallos will try to win her third consecutive league title. Last year, she shot 11-under (135) to post the lowest total score in league girls’ golf history.

The first nine holes of the individual tournament will be at El Dorado Golf Course. Tuesday’s nine holes will be at Recreation Park Golf Course, and the final 18 holes will be played on Wednesday at Skylinks Golf Course.

MAYFAIR 3, LA MIRADA 0 >> The Monsoons (17-2, 8-0) maintained their stranglehold on first place in the Suburban League with a 28-18, 25-12, 25-18 victory. Sarah Clausen led Mayfair with 13 kills while setter Nana Fuimaono had 23 assists. Emma Kailiponi contributed 10 digs and Kaitlyn Haibel had five aces.

LONG BEACH POLY 3, JORDAN 0 >> The Jackrabbits set up a Moore League title match on Thursday at Lakewood with their 25-6, 25-7, 25-10 victory. The defending league champion Lancers can clinch the crown with a victory. When Lakewood visited Poly last month, the Jackrabbits took the first set before the Lancers ran away with a 15-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-20 victory. Lakewood star Destynie Viliamu had a game-high 21 kills, 10 blocks and three digs in that game. Poly’s Penny Tusa had 15 kills and six digs.
