Hyun-Jin Ryu gives up two home runs as Dodgers lose to White Sox

THE GAME: The Chicago White Sox hit three home runs in a 5-2 victory over the Dodgers on Monday afternoon at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu went five innings and allowed three runs on his first two home runs of the spring (to Melky Cabrera and Carlos Sanchez). Ryu threw 77 pitches, gave up three hits, struck out four and didn’t walk any. ... Reliever Brandon Morrow pitched on back-to-back days for the first time this spring and gave up a leadoff double to Todd Frazier, leading to a White Sox run, before retiring the side.

HITTING REPORT: Logan Forsythe had a pair of singles Monday. He and Justin Turner are tied for the team lead in spring hits (18). ... Franklin Gutierrez got to face a left-hander again and went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk against Derek Holland. ... Yasmani Grandal drove in both Dodgers runs with a single in the first inning.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “He’s given us no reason not to be.” – Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, when asked if Ryu would be in the starting rotation to begin the season.

ALSO: Bench candidate Charlie Culberson left camp for a few days in order to be with his wife for the birth of their child.

UP NEXT: The Dodgers play their final split-squad games of the spring on Tuesday. LHP Alex Wood is scheduled to pitch against the Cincinnati Reds in Goodyear at 1 p.m. LHP Julio Urias is scheduled to pitch against the San Diego Padres at Camelback Ranch, also at 1 p.m. The Padres game will be broadcast on KLAC/570.
