Cops and clergy from Long Beach will face off in a charity basketball game later this month.
The Long Beach Ministers Alliance and Long Beach Police Department are organizing the first-time game as a new way to build relationships between residents and the officers that patrol their neighborhoods.
“One of the goals of the Long Beach Ministers Alliance is to continue to produce non-traditional ways of bridging the gap between communities and police,” Long Beach Ministers Alliance President Gregory Sanders said in a news release.
The game starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, at Cabrillo High School, 2001 Santa Fe Ave., Long Beach.
“It’s a fact that we can’t arrest our way out of the problem. Effective intervention works,” Sanders said. “Here’s how you can help make the difference.”
Tickets for the game cost $4 for anyone 18 and under or $7 for anyone 19 and above, according to the alliance.
They can be purchased through a link on the alliance’s Facebook page: facebook.com/thelballiance.
