Long Beach State women's teis finishes regular season on wiing streak

The No. 66 Long Beach State women’s teis team finished the regular season on Saturday at Rhodes Teis Center by beating No. 44 Oregon, 5-2. The 49ers (18-4) have now won 10 straight matches as they head into the Big West Conference Touament that starts April 27. LBSU’s No. 5 singles player Hayley Thompson got off to a nice start with her 11th consecutive match win while No. 1 singles player, No. 72 Maeva Razakasoa, won her tenth match in a row.

On Friday, LBSU’s dominance of Big West women’s teis continued as the 49ers defeated visiting Cal State Fullerton 7-0 to cap a perfect 8-0 season in Big West action. The win gives LBSU its 13th Big West regular-season title in the last 15 years, and extends the 49ers’ conference wiing streak to 28 consecutive matches.

LBSU will be seeking its sixth consecutive Big West Touament title and the accompanying NCAA Touament invitation.

College softball

Cal Poly 1-4, Long Beach State 0-1 >> The host 49ers (24-15, 4-4 Big West) took a hard-luck loss in the first game, and the Mustangs (18-17, 2-6) rode the momentum to take both games, and the conference series.

LBSU pitcher Christina Clermont only gave up two hits in the opening game, but Cal Poly ace Lindsey Chalmers pitched a four-hit complete-game shutout. Mustang pitcher Stephanie Heyward also limited LBSU to just four hits in the second game.

Prep baseball

GAHR 3 PENINSULA 1 >> Five Gladiator pitchers combined for a two-hit effort in a third-round win at the Redondo Touament. Sammy Arizaga eaed the victory with 3 2/3 iings of shutout relief.
