AREA ROUNDUP: Jericho Betts leading Moore League golf into final day

The Moore League individual boys golf touament heated up in the third day of action at par-72 Recreation Park Golf Course on Wednesday.

Poly High School senior Jericho Betts leads with a 5-under-par heading into the final round. He had a third-round score of 73. It included three birdies. Wilson sophomore Tyler Schafer is three shots back at 2-under-par.

Betts and Shafer are followed by five more Bruins. Brian Calubid, Andre Calubid, Hunter Epson, Andrew Feandes and Tyler Allen are next in line with Millikan’s M.J. DelaCruz rounding out the top eight. They will compete in the final round Thursday at Skylinks Golf Course at 1 p.m.

Men;s volleyball

The United States national team will retu to Southe Califoia over the next week, hosting the USAV Cup with a pair of matches against Japan. USA will host Japan at the Galen Center on Saturday and at Long Beach State’s The Walter Pyramid on Wednesday with both matches slated for a 7:30 p.m. start time.

49ers fans will see the retu of three alums to the Pyramid. Paul Lotman, David Lee and Dustin Watten are on the national team roster.

College beach volleyball

Four Long Beach State athletes made the inaugural All-Big West team. The pairs of Nele Barber and Rachel Nieto and Kobi Pekich and Sammee Thomas were both named first team all-conference.
