Nyquist wins 2016 Kentucky Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Nyquist won the 142nd ruing the Kentucky Derby.

Nyquist, ridden by Mario Gutierrez of Veracruz, Mexico, is the fourth horse with Califoia coections to win the Derby, joining I’ll Have Another (2012), Califoia Chrome (2014) and American Pharoah (2015). Horses with Califoia coections have won the past three years.

This is the second Kentucky Derby victory for Gutierrez, 29, who won in 2012 atop I’ll Have Another.
