
Long Beach State pulled off another close win on Sunday in Honolulu, taking a 4-3 victory over Hawaii to win the Big West Conference series. The Dirtbags (28-18, 11-7 Big West) are now alone in second place in the Big West.
Senior Zack Domingues delivered the game-wiing run with a ninth-iing sacrifice fly that plated pinch-ruer Zack Rivera.
LBSU junior Garrett Hampson recorded his 200th career hit and is the 12th player in program history to reach that milestone. He’s also the first LBSU player to hit two triples in one game since Richard Prigatano did it against Utah Valley in 2014.
In Saturday’s game, the Dirtbags took an 11-4 win in 12 iings after they let a two-run lead slip away in the ninth iing and left the bases loaded to reach extra iings. They clinched the win with a seven-run 12th iing.
Down to their final at-bats twice, Long Beach State (30-19, 10-8) tied the series finale with UC Riverside in the bottom of the seventh, then overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat the Highlanders for the second straight game, wiing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth iing with a huge rally. The Highlanders worked around senior Darian Tautalafua, who set a Big West record with five walks Sunday.
