
LOS ALAMITOS >> It will be home sweet home for nine of the 17 local high school softball teams in the CIF Southe Section playoffs.
The wild-card round is Tuesday, and the first round is Thursday.
The most impressive draws came from Division 6 where No. 3 St. Anthony (17-5) and No. 4 Calvary Chapel Downey (19-2) were rewarded for historically successful seasons with top seeds. After wiing the Santa Fe League for the second consecutive season, the Saints will host Rio Hondo Prep (10-7) in the first round. Academy League champion Calvary Chapel will host Crossroads (5-10) after its first wiing season in three years.
In Division 1, Sunset League champion Los Alamitos (23-2) is the No. 3 seed and will host Long Beach Wilson (14-13) in the only local match up of the first round. Wilson finished fourth in the Moore League,
Lakewood (23-4), after wiing their fifth-straight Moore League title, will also be at home in Division 1, facing Roosevelt (16-11), who finished third in the Big VIII League. Millikan (12-17) has a tough task at Huntington Beach (20-6), who finished a game behind Los Alamitos in the Sunset League. Long Beach Poly (13-8) will be at Pacifica (19-5) in Garden Grove.
Gahr (22-5-2) is the No. 3 seed in the Division 3, and will face the wild-card wier between Montclair and Harvard-Westlake in the first round.
Suburban League tri-champion La Mirada (17-12) will host Chaminade (10-17), who finished second in the Mission League. Warren (19-8) is the only other local team at home in Division 3 as the Bears take on La Sea (8-12), who also finished second in the Del Rio League.
Norwalk (13-7) will be at Palos Verdes (15-9-1), while Mayfair (18-4) has to visit Mountain Pass champion Beaumont (11-14). St. Joseph (14-10) will be looking for a huge upset at Bay League champion Redondo Union (18-9).
In the Division 3 wild-card games, Paramount (13-9) will host Burbank (12-15) while Cerritos (10-14-1) visits Crescenta Valley (14-10).
In Division 7, Avalon (14-3) won the Express League and will take on the wild-card wier between Hawthoe and Oakwood in the first round. The Lancers are lined up with a possible meeting vs. No. 2 seed Academy Careers & Exploration in the second round.
In a Division 4 wild-card game, Valley Christian (4-18) will be at Lakeside (12-15) in Lake Elsinore.
