Tim Lincecum signs with Angels on 1-year contract

ANAHEIM — Free-agent pitcher Tim Lincecum signed a one-year contract with the Angels, the club aounced Friday.

Terms were not disclosed.

The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, noting the terms of the deal were close to $2 million, plus $1.7 million in incentives.

Lincecum and Angels general manager Billy Eppler are scheduled to speak with reporters later Friday.

Lincecum, 31, was 7-4 with a 4.13 ERA in 15 starts with the San Francisco Giants last season before undergoing season-ending hip surgery. He reportedly passed a physical Thursday in Anaheim.

Before Lincecum can pitch in the majors, he is expected to make a couple rehab starts in the minors.

The veteran right-hander spent nine seasons and won three World Series with the Giants, wiing the National League Cy Young Award during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Adding Lincecum would bolster a pitching rotation thied by injuries. Garrett Richards and Andrew Heaney are out until at least August with arm injuries. C.J. Wilson (shoulder) has yet to pitch this season. Tyler Skaggs, who is working his way back from 2014 Tommy John surgery, has not pitched in a minor-league game since April 20.
