LA Dodgers muster only one hit in 2-0 loss to Chicago Cubs

CHICAGO >> The Dodgers checked out of a hotel in New York late Sunday night and into a hotel in Chicago early Monday moing.

They still haven’t checked in to Wrigley Field.

Starting pitcher Jason Hammel and four relievers reduced the Dodgers’ offense to a whisper Monday afteoon in the Cubs’ 2-0 win before an aounced crowd of 41,470 at Wrigley Field.

Hammel allowed a single to the third batter he faced, Justin Tuer. The next batter, Adrian Gonzalez, walked. The Dodgers did not put another ruer on base the rest of the day.

They had a golden opportunity, too, when Hammel came down with a cramp in his right hamstring as he warmed up to pitch the third iing. After an athletic trainer and Cubs manager Joe Maddon briefly checked on the pitcher, Hammel left the field and was replaced by Travis Wood.

Wood (3-0) probably had no intention of pitching at all when the day began. Nonetheless, he pitched four scoreless iings without a hint of a scoring threat.

The Cubs got both of their runs against Dodgers starter Alex Wood (1-4) in the fifth iing on back-to-back hits by Jason Heyward and Anthony Rizzo. Wood allowed seven hits in five iings, walking three batters and striking out seven.

The loss is only the Dodgers’ second in their last seven games. Their four-game series in Chicago continues Tuesday.
