Paramount boys soccer top seed in CIF-SS Division 1

The 15 local high school boys soccer teams who made the cut for the CIF Southe Section playoffs are highlighted by five quality teams in Division 1, including top-seeded Paramount. All first-round games are scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday.

“Rankings are just a number, we’re about final results,” Paramount head coach Rafa Villasenor said. His No. 1 Pirates (19-1-3, 9-0-1) won the San Gabriel Valley League, eaed a first-round bye Friday and will face either Alemany or Fountain Valley next Wednesday. Paramount has won via clean sheet in seven of its last nine games.

“We don’t worry too much about scouting,” Villasenor said. “I always tell the boys that the only team that can beat them is themselves. We just have to worry about ourselves.”

Also in Division 1, No. 4 Los Alamitos, No. 5 St. John Bosco and No. 7 Warren are all at home for the first round. The Braves (15-3-6, 6-1-3) finished second in the Trinity League and will host Mission Viejo. The Diablos (4-6-3, 4-2-2 Coast View Athletic League) started the season 0-5 but bounced back during league play.

Los Alamitos (17-3-6, 8-2) won the Sunset League and will host Notre Dame Sherman Oaks while Warren (15-5-2, 7-1-2 SGVL) will take on Moorpark out of the Coastal Canyon League. Downey (12-9-2, 6-3-1 SGVL) is at Royal.

The Moore League is in Division 2, where league champion Cabrillo (19-4-5, 9-2-1) is the No. 1 seed and will host Schurr, at-large finisher from the Almont League. Millikan (18-5-5, 8-3-1 Moore) will also be at home hosting La Sea of the Del Rio League. Third-place finishers Jordan (14-11-0, 8-4-0 Moore) will visit El Rancho, Del Rio League champion and the No. 4 seed. On Wednesday, Long Beach Wilson (11-11-3, 4-5-3 Moore) will travel to Whittier for a wild-card match. The wier will face No. 3 Montebello.

In Division 4, Suburban League champion Bellflower (17-4-1, 10-2) used its recent nine-game wiing streak to ea the No. 4 seed. The Buccaneers will host either Costa Mesa or Pacifica. After starting the Suburban League 6-0, No. 6 Artesia (17-4-3, 9-2-1 Suburban) will also be at home to face Carpinteria while La Mirada (12-8-3, 8-4-0 Suburban) visits No. 8 South Torrance. Norwalk (10-8-2, 6-5-1 Suburban) is in the wild-card round on Wednesday when it visit Torrance.

For the small private schools, Valley Christian (10-6-3, 7-1-0 Olympic League) is in Division 6 and will be at CAMS on Friday for the first round. In Division 7, St. Anthony (10-9-4, 7-1-2 Santa Fe League) visits Canoga Park AGBU.
