Update: As Copa America Centenario enters the knockout round, the Galaxy start the fourth round of the 2016 U.S. Open Cup against amateur side La Maquina tonight. It’s been 12 days since the Galaxy took the field in a forgettable scoreless draw against Sporting Kansas City on June 2. The tie, during which the Galaxy took only one shot and none on goal, stretched the team’s winless streak to four games. … Tonight’s game will give the Galaxy reserves a chance for playing time as L.A. faces an amateur team from the United Premier Soccer League (USPL). … La Maquina advanced to tonight’s game with a win over fellow UPSL side L.A. Wolves last week. … The U.S. Open Cup is the country’s longest-standing domestic touament and is recognized as U.S. Soccer’s national club championship.
