LeBron James and the Cavaliers have a chance to extend the 2016 NBA Finals Series to a Game 7 against the Golden State Warriors tonight in Cleveland.
If the Cavaliers manage to defeat the Warriors in Game 7, they would be the first team in the NBA’s history to rally back from a 3-1 series deficit to win a championship. Thirty-two others have failed.
For that to happen, the Cavaliers will need to bring the same energy as they did in Game 5.
“We are here so we might as well play with confidence like we have throughout the season,” James said during the Cavaliers’ moing shoot around on Thursday. “We look forward to the challenge.”
James and Kyrie Irving scored 82 of the Cavs’ 112 points on the road against a Warriors team that entered Game 5 with a 39-1 home record.
“When you see two guys playing like that obviously you notice because you keep seeing the ball go in the basket,” said Warriors guard Stephen Curry during a post-practice interview with the media on Wednesday. “You get a little bit of a edge about you and want to go back at them.”
The missing link for the Warriors was Draymond Green, who was suspended by the NBA for Game 5. He will play in Game 6.
The team also saw center Andrew Bogut go down with a knee injury in the second half of Game 5 and is done for the series.
A win for the Warriors will conclude a storybook season with a second consecutive NBA Championship. A win for Cavaliers would set up for a winner-take-all Game 7.
