Kings' 50th season begins in San Jose

The Kings kick off their 50th aiversary season Oct. 12 at Stanley Cup finalist San Jose then retu for their home opener against Philadelphia two days later.

After a four-day break, the Kings, looking to rebound from last season’s first-round playoff loss, head to Miesota on Oct. 18, where former Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau is starting his first season as coach of the Wild. The Kings then travel to Dallas on Oct. 20.

The Kings are home for six of their next eight games, the two out-of-state games being at Weste Conference finalist St. Louis (Oct. 28) and Chicago (Oct. 30).

They retu to Staples Center to face their other in-state rival, the Ducks, on Nov. 1, for the first of five meetings. The Kings and Ducks also play Nov. 20 at Honda Center; Feb. 19 at Honda Center, Feb. 25 at Staples Center and end the season April 9 at Honda Center.

After the Ducks, the Kings face off against reigning NHL champion Pittsburgh at Staples Center the following night (Nov. 2). They then get a breather.

The Kings’ next six games are against non-playoff teams, starting with a Nov. 5 meeting against Calgary at home before heading off on a Canadian swing to Toronto (Nov.8), Montreal (Nov. 10) and Wiipeg (Nov. 13). They end the trip Nov. 15 at Colorado.

The Kings spend much of December on the road, playing 10 of 14 games away from Staples Center, highlighted by a nine-game East Coast trip.

Other notable games include Nov. 30 San Jose at Staples Center; Dec. 16 at Pittsburgh, and Jan. 3 at San Jose.

Lecavalier retires

Vincent Lecavalier, who previously said this past season would be his last, made it official Tuesday. He aounced he was retiring after 17 NHL seasons.

Lecavalier, who joined the Kings midseason, scored 10 goals (17 total points) in 42 games.

Lecavalier played 14 seasons with Tampa Bay, where he helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup in 2004, before joining the Philadelphia Flyers.

“Hockey has provided me so much in my lifetime but requires an incredible commitment,” Lecavalier said. “It is not time for me to devote more time to my family.”
