Clayton Kershaw going on 15-day disabled list for back discomfort

Dodgers ace Clayon Kershaw will be placed on the 15-day lisabled list for lower back discomfort, manager Dave Roberts said before Thursday’s game in Milwaukee.

Kershaw, 28, reportedly received an epidural for the pain, which hampered his last start Sunday in Pittsburgh in which he allowed four runs on nine hits.

The only previous stint on the disabled list for Kershaw was when he missed five weeks early in 2014 because of a teres major strain in his upper back.

The left-hander is 11-2 and leads the major leagues with a 1.79 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, 145 strikeouts, three complete games and three shutouts.

The Dodgers are 29-35 in games in which Kershaw does not start. He was scheduled to pitch Friday against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.

Kershaw joins fellow starters Brett Anderson, Brandon McCarthy, Hyun-jin Ryu and Alex Wood on the disabled list.
