Mike Trout won't comepete in Home Run Derby

Mike Trout said he is not participating in the Home Run Derby during the All-Star Game events next week.

“Eventually I’m going to do it, just not this year,” Trout said Tuesday afteoon.

Trout is expected to be named a starting outfielder for the American League team when the rosters are unveiled on ESPN at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

It will be Trout’s fifth All-Star Game. He is familiar enough with the schedule that he apparently feels adding in the Derby would be too much.

“It’s a long two days,” Trout said.
