Pac-12 Network being added for Cox, Frontier subcribers

Cox and Frontier subscribers will now have access to the Pac-12’s national feed, the conference aounced Thursday. The changes will give subscribers access to the national chael, which includes 35 football games and more than 300 men’s basketball games, instead of the regional feed, which only shows local teams in their respective markets.

Frontier Communications will add the national Pac-12 Network for Los Angeles and Palm Springs subscribers by Sept. 1. FIOS Los Angeles subscribers will receive the conference’s national broadcast on the company’s “Preferred” tier. Palm Springs subscribers will have the chael on the “Extreme” tier.

Cox Communications will add Pac-12 Network to its “Essential” tier by Aug. 2 for subscribers in Arizona and Los Angeles and show the national feed alongside the regional networks. Cox subscribers will also have access to all seven chaels through the Pac-12 Now app.

Previously, subscribers were allowed access only to regional Pac-12 Networks. For example, Pac-12 Los Angeles or Pac-12 Arizona focused solely on local teams. If a local team was not involved in a marquee Pac-12 game shown on the national network, Frontier and Cox subscribers couldn’t watch it.

“More eyeballs and more satisfied fans,” Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said of the change.

When asked of the long standoff between the conference and Direct TV, Scott said there was still no news. The commissioner said he is disappointed and frustrated with the lack of a deal, but the conference will continue to “knock on doors” to get one done.
