HOLLYWOOD >> UCLA football will retu to Cal State San Beardino for training camp next month for the fifth consecutive year, but there will be some changes.

It will be shorter, for one thing. More intense, presumably.

The Bruins, who in the past have spent 10 days to two weeks staying in Cal State’s residence halls and broiling on the school’s practice fields at the begiing of fall practice, will instead open their camp Aug. 8 at UCLA. They will move their operations to San Beardino on Aug. 15 for six days, three of those with two-a-day practices.

That was kind of the point, Bruin coach Jim Mora said Friday moing during Pac-12 Media Days at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland.

“I’ve liked San Beardino, and I still do,” he said. “It’s served us well to go out there. But ... we we were out there too long. The first week, you’re only allowed one practice a day, and (the move) was a little more of a grind and a burden than we’d really like.

“So the first week we’ll stay in a hotel (near the UCLA campus), use our facilities, have one practice a day and meetings and some team bonding things. Then we’ll go out to San Beardino, and we’ll have some two-a-days, nine practices in six days. We just felt as a staff, at this point of our development, it’s the best way to go.”
