Former USC receiver Nelson Agholor won't face sexual assault charges

The Philadelphia district attoey’s office aounced Monday that it will not file sexual assault charges against former USC receiver Nelson Agholor following an incident at a Philadelphia strip club.

Agholor, 23, was accused of rape by a 27-year-old dancer at Cheerleader’s Gentlemen’s Club on June 9, prompting a month-long investigation. Seth Williams, the district attoey, cited insufficient evidence.

“The District Attoey’s Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit and detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit thoroughly investigated the allegations of sexual assault against Nelson Agholor,” a statement from the district attoey’s office read. “As a result of this joint investigation, our staff and the Police reached the conclusion that we lacked sufficient evidence to bring charges against Mr. Agholor, therefore no charges will be filed.”

After leaving USC in 2014 following his junior season, Agholor was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the first round of the NFL draft.

He is entering his second season with the team. Training camp begins later this month.

Eagles teammates Coor Barwin and Fletcher Cox were present with Agholor at the club following the final mandatory minicamp practice, according to reports.

“This is great news for Nelson and his family,” said Agholor’s attoey, Fortunato N. Perri in a statement. “We applaud the Detectives and the District Attoey’s office for conducting a complete and exhaustive investigation into the allegations. We’ve said from the outset that Nelson didn’t commit a crime and the investigation has validated our assertion.”
