Travis Hammonds to transfer out of Long Beach State basketball

LONG BEACH >> Long Beach State men’s basketball head coach Dan Monson confirmed on Monday that forward Travis Hammonds is receiving his full release from the 49ers after wiing the Big West Conference Sixth Man of the Year award.

“We have agreed it is in the best interest for (Hammonds) and our basketball program for him to transfer,” Monson said. “We wish him well.”

Hammonds, who is entering his senior year, averaged 6.4 points and three rebounds a game last season. He joined LBSU midseason as a freshman in 2013-14 and had a breakout season. However, he was suspended three times in his two and a half years as a 49er because of off-court issues.

Hammonds has not yet secured a destination for transferring.
