Even Southern California's Olympic athletes get excited to meet Michael Phelps

Sure, competing in the Olympics is cool and all, but you know what’s also awesome? Meeting Michael Phelps.

At least that’s what you’d think if you watched beach volleyball player and member of Team USA Lauren Fendrick’s Snapchat story.

Fendrick is a pretty famous athlete in her own right, but even she couldn’t contain herself when she met Phelps.

Her excitement about meeting other professional athletes isn’t unusual among the athletes from Southe Califoia.

On Friday, nearly all of Team USA gathered for a large part of the evening to take part in the Opening Ceremony. Though they’ll continue to run into each other throughout their time at the Olympic Village, this was their biggest opportunity to meet and talk with other American athletes.

So what did they do about it? They took selfies. Lots of selfies.
