UFC 202: Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz press conference almost breaks out into brawl

LAS VEGAS — Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor really don’t like each other. Or apparently press conferences for that matter.

Just five months after their press conference for UFC 196 broke into a wild melee, the pair and their camps hurled insults, profanities and drinks at each other Wednesday at the UFC 202 press conference at the David Copperfield Theatre at the MGM Grand.

Diaz and McGregor are the main event Saturday in a welterweight rematch of their scintillating March showdown, shockingly won by Diaz via a second-round rear-naked choke.

McGregor arrived nearly 25 minutes late to the presser Tuesday, which also featured UFC President Dana White and light heavyweights Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira. White was clearly agitated at McGregor’s tardiness, saying they were on a tight schedule.

Within minutes of McGregor’s arrival, Diaz and McGregor began exchanging insults. Diaz, who referred to McGregor’s lateness as “rude,” appeared to upstage the featherweight champ, leaving the stage and walking out with his camp. An agitated McGregor began cursing at Diaz and his team.

As the Diaz crew left, they yelled back at McGregor’s team. Within seconds, water bottles and energy drinks were being chucked between the teams.

At one point it appeared another brawl would ensue, with McGregor ready to leave the stage and join the fracas. But security kept everyone at bay.

Once calm was restored, White said in the microphone: “Sorry, guys! See ya Saturday!”

With that, the press conference ended 30 minutes early and without the requisite faceoff poses.
