HS football roundup: Paramount football runs past Jordan

Junior ruing back Al Fisher paced a powerful ruing game that carried visiting Paramount to a 28-6 victory Friday night over Jordan.

Fisher rushed for a game-high 121 yards on 18 carries. He scored a pair of touchdowns.

Pierre Robinson Jr., had a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter that was the longest of the game for Paramount.

Robinson returned the game’s opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. It was the second time in three weeks that the Jordan special teams unit allowed a touchdown on the opening kickoff.

Paramount stretched the lead to 13-0 with a 10-play, 60-yard drive that featured only one pass completion. Fisher plowed into the end zone from the 1-yard line.

Fisher’s second touchdown of the first half, a 5-yard run, gave the Pirates a 21-0 halftime lead.

Jordan played its second consecutive game without starting quarterback Chris Loaisiga, who suffered a knee injury two weeks ago. Senior Izzy Sarabia led the Panthers to a 7-6 victory last week over Norwalk, and despite the Panthers’ offensive struggles against visiting Paramount, Jordan coach John Kane retains confidence in Sarabia.

“Izzy’s our guy right now,’’ Kane said. “I told (the players) we’re going with Izzy and we can win with Izzy.’’

The highlight of Jordan’s night came on an 83-yard touchdown drive that was sparked by William Satulua’s 38-yard run on fourth-and-six. Satulua scored on a 2-yard run with 8:52 left.

Paramount evened its record at 1-1. Jordan dropped to 1-2.

Santa Monica 34, Compton 14 >> Santa Monica’s defense and rushing attack were too much for Compton as the Vikings defeated the Tarbabes behind a second-half scoring burst.

On the first play of its second possession, Compton (1-2) got on the scoreboard with a 59-yard touchdown run by Izaiah Thomas.

The teams traded stops for a while, each halting the other in their respective red zones on goal-to-go situations, before the Vikings (1-2) responded with a 2-yard scoring run from Tony Dancy with just 43 seconds remaining in the half.

From there, the Tarbabes were clearly not content going into the break that way as Christian Swint ripped off consecutive runs of 48, 11 and 4 yards to get Compton down to the 6-yardline with eight seconds to go, but an incomplete pass and a bobbled handoff attempt ended the drive and the half.

Santa Monica used a 70-yard kickoff return on a reverse to open the third quarter and take its first lead. Compton needed less than three minutes to tie it up again on a 46-yard run by Swint, but in even less time, Dancy was at it again, delivering the eventual game-wiing score on a 5-yard run.

The junior added a 20-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter and finished with 198 yards and three TDs on 26 carries. Swint paced Compton with 227 yards and a score on 22 carries.

The Vikings defense also came up big, with three fumble recoveries and an interception while shutting out the Tarbabes in both the second and fourth quarters.

There was a scary moment in the third when Compton lineman Fernando Aguayo went down and had to be taken from the field in an ambulance. He did, however, give the crowd a smile and a wave as he was lifted in.
