Area roundup: Crook gets win No. 514; Mayfair, La Mirada, Warren and St. Anthony advance in girls soccer playoffs

Casey Crook became the all-time coaching victory leader in Long Beach City College baseball history Tuesday afteoon when the team put him at 514 with an 8-0 nonconference victory at Irvine Valley.

The 23rd-year head coach surpassed LBCC legend Joe Hicks, who won 513 over 25 seasons. Sophomores Jackson Foss (Wilson HS) and Sean Williams (Wilson HS) both launched three-run home runs to lead the Vikings (5-5).

Freshmen Daniel Rocha and Steven Nuno (Warren HS) combined for a five-hit shutout. Rocha went six iings, allowing three hits while Nuno closed out the victory with a three-iing save.

Long Beach retus to action on Thursday when it hosts Irvine Valley at 2 p.m.

Girls soccer

MAYFAIR 3, BURBANK 1 >> The Monsoons got two goals from Brooke Tafoya and another from Lauren Vasquez on the road to advance to the CIF Southe Section Division 4 quarterfinals and host St. Margaret’s on Thursday.

LA MIRADA 1, VALLEY VIEW 0 >> The Matadores won a close Division 4 road game and will face Santa Monica in the quarters on Thursday.

WARREN 2, NORTH TORRANCE 0 >> In Division 3, the Bears delivered a shutout on the road and will be at El Dorado in the quarterfinals Thursday afteoon.

SOUTH HILLS 7, PARAMOUNT 0 >> The Pirates had no answer for South Hills’ offensive attack at home as their season came to an end in Division 3.

ST. ANTHONY 3, THACHER 1 >> The Saints punched their ticked to a third consecutive Division 7 quarterfinal with a win on the road behind a first-half goal from JV call-up Jessica Martin and two after the break from Alexsis Weiser.

St. Anthony will host Los Amigos, which defeated Riverside Prep 2-1.
