Long Beach Wilson football shuts out Jordan

LONG BEACH >> Big-time players step up in big games, and that’s exactly what seniors Jacobi Hardy and Semaj Parker did for the Bruins in Wilson’s victory over Jordan on Friday night. The two Wilson playmakers combined for five touchdowns in a 50-0 Moore League victory over the Panthers.

“We put it together,” Wilson head coach Mark Ziegenhagen said. “If we can get (Hardy and Parker) the ball, they’ll get us some yards. We executed that tonight.”

The Wilson offense found the end zone on every drive in the first half, starting with a 70-yard touchdown sprint from Hardy on the opening possession. The Jordan offense took the field the following possession and Parker scooped up a fumble and scored from 30 yards to give the Bruins an early 14-0 lead.

“Stay hungry. That’s my mindset on the field,” Parker said. “I think about playing every down like it’s my last and when the ball comes out I have to make a play.”

Parker recovered another fumble on the following Panther possession, and the Wilson offense converted the turnover into points again. Senior quarterback Taer Frost tossed the ball to Hardy in space, and the speedster did the rest. Hardy finished with 12 carries for 151 yards and two rushing touchdowns to go along with his 56-yard touchdown reception.

“Every time I touch the ball I’m thinking house,” Hardy said. “I trust in my team and we work as a unit.”

He later added, “Don’t forget to mention my O-line.”

Parker intercepted a pass late in the first half, giving him his third turnover of the ball game. He was rewarded with a 6-yard touchdown catch from Frost to push the score to 36-0 at halftime.

The Wilson defense did a great job of stopping the two-headed Panther rushing attack of Isiah Clark and William Satulua. The Bruins only gave up 142 total yards in the first half, and 43 of those yards came on one play in Jordan’s opening possession.

“We bent a little bit on defense, but we didn’t break,” Ziegenhagen said. “We stopped them when we needed to.”

“We have to continue to play week to week,” he added. “But if we play like this, then we’ll be good in our division.”

Wilson (4-2, 1-1) will travel to Lakewood next week and Jordan (2-4, 1-1) will visit Cabrillo.
