Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz bring insults, drama to UFC 196 press conference

TORRANCE — With apologies to the great Grantland Rice, this might not have been the tumult and the shouting he would have envisioned in a current life in sport.

But there was that and more Wednesday at the UFC Gym in Torrance.

Amid the cursing and insults at a press conference that would have wo out a censor’s delay button, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz engaged in a spirited dialogue as they brought life to what one day earlier appeared to be a flatlining UFC 196.

They entertained the fans who lined up around the building for a chance to glimpse and listen to McGregor, the brash Irish superstar and featherweight champion, and Diaz, the outspoken Stockton native and UFC veteran.

Most of all, they brought drama and added intrigue to the main event of a pay-per-view card that one day earlier appeared doomed by the withdrawal of injured lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
