Area roundup: 4 local advance, 5 stumble in CIF boys soccer playoffs

A single second-half goal held up for the Los Alamitos High boys soccer team on the road Wednesday afteoon in a 1-0 win over MLK in the second round of the CIF Southe Section Division 1 playoffs.

The Griffins will face Ventura in the quarterfinals on Friday.

VENTURA 3, ST. JOHN BOSCO 2 >> The Braves scored first and then tied the match at 2 in the 37th minute, but Ventura scored the game-wier with just a minute remaining and will head to Friday’s Division 1 quarterfinals.

WARREN 4, ST. FRANCIS 1 >> The Bears had the offense rolling and were rewarded with a trip to the Division 1 quarterfinals and a road match against Peninsula on Friday.

CABRILLO 3, ORANGE 1 >> The Jaguars are headed to the Division 2 quarterfinals after picking up a win on the road behind goals from Issac Andover, Angel Gomez and Juan Delfin.

Cabrillo will be at Rancho Verde on Friday afteoon.

SANTA ANA 3, MILLIKAN 1 >> The Rams were eliminated from the Division 2 playoffs with a second-round road loss.

Alex Gonzalez scored the first goal of the game to give Millikan a lead before Santa Ana put up three unanswered goals.

EL SEGUNDO 2, BELLFLOWER 1 >> Gilbert Cortez scored both El Segundo goals to defeat the Bucs in the second round of the Division 4 playoffs.

CHAPARRAL 2, ARTESIA 1 (2 OT) >> The Pioneers scored in stoppage time to tie the Division 4 second-round game before Chaparral won it on a penalty kick in the second overtime.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 2, SAN MARINO 1 (2 OT) >> The Crusaders are on their way to the Division 6 quarterfinals after Josh Akrofi netted the game-wier off of a coer kick from Klay Solomon in the second overtime on the road.

Clay D’Amico scored the equalizer in the 60th minute for Valley, which will host tope-seeded, undefeated Desert Mirage on Friday at 5 p.m.

FILLMORE 2, ST. ANTHONY 0 >> Fillmore scored in the 28th and 58th minutes to shutout the Saints and end their season during Division 7 action at Clark Field.
