Willie Reed, a backup center who signed a one-season, $1.5-million contract with the Clippers last week, was arrested early Sunday moing in Miami on a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from a domestic violence incident, according to multiple reports.
Reed was arrested at a downtown Miami condo, according to the Miami Herald.
Further details were not immediately available.
Reed spent last season with the Miami Heat and was in Miami working out in preparation for his first training camp with the Clippers next month. Reed averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds last season with the Heat, his second year in the NBA. He also has played with the Brooklyn Nets.
Listed by the Clippers at 6-feet-11 and 245 pounds, the 27-year-old was not drafted in 2011 out of Saint Louis University. He played three seasons in the NBA’s D-League before signing with the Nets for 2015-16. He also has played in Israel and the Dominican Republic.
The Clippers announced his signing Thursday.
