A brief look at the Trojans’ training-camp practice on Friday at Howard Jones-Brian Kennedy Field:
LIGHT LOAD
USC’s practice was essentially a walk-through in preparation for a 60-play live scrimmage on Saturday, its second of training camp. Players were not in pads for the 75-minute workout. The quarterbacks wore visors.
DEPTH CHART
Coach Clay Helton confirmed running back Dominic Davis had moved to coerback, where he worked out for the second straight practice. Davis, amid a logjam in the backfield, requested the position switch. “He wants to have the opportunity to see what he can do over there,” Helton said. “And it’s the right time.” Davis, a junior, previously played coerback at Alemany High in Mission Hills. Davis saw 37 carries at running back in his first two seasons with the program.
LINE CALLS
Helton said he’s “pretty close” to finalizing positions for Nico Falah and Toa Lobendahn on the offensive line. Falah, the retuing starter at center, has also worked out at right tackle. Lobendahn has practiced at left tackle and center. A depth chart is expected to be set at the end of training camp next week.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I’ve really appreciated their maturity and how they’ve come about it, they’ve really been a shut-up-and-work bunch. — Helton, asked about USC’s freshman recruiting class
