A brief look at the Chargers’ training-camp practice Tuesday at Jack Hammett Sports Complex:

Big moment

A candidate to replace injured linebacker Denzel Perryman (ankle), third-year pro Nick Dzubnar broke up a pass in the end zone while working with the first-team defense. Dzubnar led the Chargers in special teams tackles as an undrafted rookie, but missed much of last season with a torn ACL.

Injury report

Perryman underwent ankle surgery Tuesday, and is expected to be out for at least two months. Defensive end Jerry Attaochu is week-to-week with a hamstring injury he sustained during the Chargers’ preseason loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

Ruing back Kenjon Barner is in the concussion protocol.

Receiver Mike Williams, who missed most of the offseason with a lower-back disk herniation, is still at least three weeks away from practicing.

“He’s ruing more and he is doing more,” Coach Anthony Ly said. “I like what I’m seeing. He’s ruing and he’s making some cuts now. He can sprint, but for right now just not for a long period of time.”

Depth chart

Dzubnar and sixth-year veteran Korey Toomer are the most likely candidates to replace Perryman, and shared first-team reps Tuesday. The Chargers also added depth by signing linebacker Kyle Coleman, who has had two offseason stints with the Seahawks as a fullback.

Ly expects third-round pick Dan Feeney to get snaps with the first-team offensive line this week. Feeney could push veteran Key Wiggins for the starting right guard job, but has thus far practiced primarily as the Chargers’ backup center.
