
LONG BEACH >> The La Mirada girls headline four local high school soccer teams which will continue their seasons Tuesday in the first round of the CIF Southe Califoia Regional playoff. Games are scheduled for 4 p.m.
Coming off of their second straight CIF Southe Section Division 4 championship, the No. 1-seeded Matadores (19-5-4) will open the Division IV regional at home against Southwest High from San Diego. The Raiders (12-9-1) only needed three wins to take the San Diego Section Division IV title, beating Sage Creek 1-0 in the final. Senior Elena Perez leads Southwest with 13 goals and seven assists. Junior forward Chica Rojas chipped in 12 goals and six assists.
Three local boys soccer teams will be in the Division I and Division II playoffs. Los Alamitos (20-4-6) is the No. 6 seed in Division I, and will travel to Clovis for its first-round regional matchup against Buchanan. The Bears (20-1-7) completed the three-peat as the CIF Central Section Division I champions thanks to a 2-0 win over Centeial over the weekend.
Also in Division I, No. 8-seeded Warren (18-6-2) has to visit No. 1 Cathedral Catholic (15-6-2) in San Diego. The Dons only allowed one goal in the postseason on their way to the San Diego Section Open Division title.
In Division II, the Jordan boys have a chance to rewrite their last moment together. The No. 5 seeded Panthers (18-12) suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to Suy Hills in the CIF-SS Division 2 title game. Tuesday at 5 p.m., they’re traveling to Bakersfield to face South (25-2-4), which won the Central Section Division II championship. It was the third straight section title for the Rebels, and second Division II crown. If Jordan and Suy Hills both win first-round games, they’ll face each other in the regional semifinal on Thursday.
