Los Angeles Rams lose Janoris Jenkins to New York Giants

On the first official day of free agency, the Los Angeles Rams have reportedly lost a key piece of their defense.

NFL Network’s Rand Getlin is reporting this moing that Rams starting coerback Janoris Jenkins has reached agreement with the New York Giants, and according to NFL.com’s Ian Rappoport the former second-round pick will make more than $12 million per season.

A source close to the situation indicated that as of late Tuesday night, Jenkins appeared to be leaning toward leaving the Rams.

Payers can begin signing their contracts at 1 p.m. PST today.

For the Rams, the cost to retain Jenkins is simply too prohibitive for a player known for his outstanding playmaking ability but one whose aggressiveness led to big plays given up.

Nevertheless, it’s a significant loss, and the Rams still have UFA Rodney McLeod and linebacker Mark Barron left to sign from a defense that was a strength of the team.
