Dustin Poirier vs. Bobby Green added to UFC 199 at The Forum

A showdown between two ranked lightweights has been added to UFC 199 as No. 10 Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier has agreed to face No. 12 Bobby ‘King’ Green on June 4 at The Forum in Inglewood.

It is the first fight to join two highly anticipated main-event championships bouts — a rematch between middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and former champ Chris Weidman and a trilogy clash between bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber

Wier of seven of his past eight fights, Poirier, 27, is riding a three-fight wiing streak since retuing to the 155-pound division. Following a first-round TKO loss to future featherweight champion Conor McGregor at 145 pounds in September 2014, the Lafayette, La., native responded with a first-round knockout of Carlos Diego Ferreira in April and a first-round TKO of Yancy Medeiros two months later.

Poirier (19-4) is coming off one of his most impressive victories when he dominated highly touted Joseph Duffy via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 195 in January.

Green (23-6), meanwhile, hasn’t stepped into the Octagon in 16 months. Injuries forced the 29-year-old to withdraw from fights last year against Jorge Masvidal and Al Iaquinta.

The Fontana native and resident suffered his first UFC loss via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) to Edson Barboza in November 2014. Before that, Green had won eight consecutive fights, including UFC victories over Jacob Volkma (third-round submission via rear-naked choke), James Krause (first-round TKO via body kick), Pay Healy (unanimous decision) and Josh Thomson (split decision).

The UFC will be retuing to Southe Califoia for the first time since on Feb. 28, 2015, when Ronda Rousey defeated Cat Zingano in 14 seconds via armbar at UFC 184 at Staples Center.
