FONTANA >> Austin Dillon, the pole-sitter for Sunday’s Auto Club 400, came away with an improbable Xfinity victory as the Joe Gibbs Racing trio of Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones all fell to misfortunes in the final laps of Saturday’s TreatMyClot.com 300 at Auto Club Speedway.

Kyle Busch, who was looking for his record-tying fourth consecutive Xfinity victory, was in control for most of the race, with teammates pole-sitter Suarez and Jones. But as the laps ticked down, it all came apart.

First, Jones ran out of fuel with three laps to go. then shortly after taking the white flag on the final lap Busch blew a left front tire. Suarez quickly moved into the lead, but ran out of fuel on the back stretch. Busch briefly moved back in front before Austin Dillon, charging hard for the finish line, slipped around Busch to win the race.

Busch finished second ahead of Darrell Wallace Jr., Suarez and Elliott Sadler.
