Long Beach Poly comes up short in boys basketball state final

SACRAMENTO >> It was the year of “almost” for the Long Beach Poly boys basketball team—the Jackrabbits almost won a CIF-SS title, and on Saturday at the Sleep Train Arena, they almost won a state title. Instead, another big game ended in heartbreak for the Jackrabbits, as they fell 48-43 to the San Mateo Serra Padres in the CIF State Division II championship game.

“This will be a day I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” said Serra coach Chuck Rapp.

The Jackrabbits were outshot at the free throw line 21-3 and outrebounded 35-28, as their offense sputtered for much of the game.
