Game report: Dallas Stars 3, LA Kings 2

Key play: Jordie Be scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third period, his first since Dec. 21, and the Dallas Stars held on for a 3-2 victory Saturday over the Kings at Staples Center. Be’s goal, on a shot from near the right point, ended a 28-game drought.

Playoff update: The Kings (46-27-5, 97 points) squandered a chance to increase their lead in the Pacific Division over the second-place Ducks to three points. The Ducks retu to the ice Sunday to play host to the Stars. The Kings and Ducks play Thursday at Staples Center.

Pivotal performer: Center Jeff Carter scored a second-period goal to give the Kings a 2-1 lead, a result of a hustle play in the Stars’ end of the ice. Carter’s goal was his fifth in the past four games after he went eight consecutive contests without one.

Welcome back: Kings right wing Kris Versteeg retued to the lineup after sitting out for six consecutive games because of a lower-body injury. He was hurt while blocking a shot during the Kings’ 2-1 victory March 19 over the Boston Bruins.
