LONG BEACH >> Millikan High School is celebrating the retu of Moore League softball.

After losing 12 of their first 15 games in a difficult nonleague schedule, the Rams (6-12, 3-0) stayed perfect in league play after beating Long Beach Poly, 9-3, on Tuesday afteoon at Joe Rodgers Stadium. Millikan has outscored its first three league opponents, 42-3.

Senior captain Cheeks Ramos finished with four hits, two triples, four RBIs and three runs scored for Millikan. Freshman Rachel Rubio pitched a complete game. She scattered four hits and struck out eight.

“That’s the team I want to see; I love that team,” Millikan coach Stacy Allinson said. “We weren’t getting timely hits. But (Ramos) is our spark plug. She brought the rest of the team with her.”

Ramos drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first iing. She singled to right-center field to score Isabella Filorio, who had four runs. Ramos padded the Millikan lead with a two-run triple to left field to make it 6-0. Rams junior first baseman Kylee Perryman had three RBI hits and sophomore Georgia Hilleshiem and junior Brittani Kealoha also drove in runs.

“I just try to lead by example,” Ramos said. “We leaed (during nonleague play) that you have to jump out to an early lead. I’m the only senior on this team, so we’re young and we’re trying to figure out how to find and keep momentum.”

Poly (5-4, 2-1) scored twice in the fourth iing on RBI hits from senior third baseman Ae Adamos and pitcher Qui Marchio, who threw a complete game. Adamos led off the sixth iing with a triple and Marchio hit a sacrifice fly. Ramos and Millikan tacked on insurance runs in the seventh.

Millikan will retu to Rodgers Stadium at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday to take on Wilson. Poly travels to Jordan.

LAKEWOOD 12, WILSON 1 >> Lancer ace Vanessa Foreman went the distance and gave up two hits in a Moore League win. Lakewood (9-1, 3-0) scored four times in the first iing and got home runs from catcher Montana Dixon and first baseman Ari Bus. McKenzie Barbara hit a first-iing home run for the Bruins (6-7, 2-2), The game ended in the fifth iing because of mercy rule.
