Area roundup: La Mirada, Cerritos and Norwalk lead Suburban League cross country meet

The Suburban League held its second cross country meet of the season at Cerritos Regional Park where Cerritos took the top two spots in the boys race. However, La Mirada won the meet with five of the top eight finishers and all but clinched a share of the league title.

Bill Chuang was first for the Dons with a time of 16:39 and Brandon Vo was the top finisher for the Matadores at 16:49. Cerritos freshman Cole Sawires Yager finished second.

In the girls race, Norwalk took the meet and the top two spots with juniors Misty Diaz and Ruby Galindo. Diaz finished at 18:55.

Girls volleyball

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 3, VILLAGE CHRISTIAN 1 >> Outside hitters Aubrey Schwieger and Madison Holmes combined for 31 kills to lead the Crusaders (14-12, 5-0 Olympic League) to victory 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18. Libero Kaylee Westra had 13 digs.

GAHR 3, WARREN 0 >> The Gladiators (14-6, 7-0) maintained their top spot in the Suburban League with a sweep 25-14, 25-18, 25-16. Jazminn Parrish had 18 kills and 12 digs for Gahr.

Girls golf

WILSON 166, EDISON 194 >> The Bruins (19-4) picked up a nonleague victory at Recreation Park South Golf Course in their final dual match of the season. The 19 wins tie a team record for dual-match wins. Wilson senior Ali Morallos eagled the seventh hole on her way to a 4-under par and the medalist honors.

Girls tennis

VALLEY CHRISTIAN 12, HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 6 >> Kailani Kane, MaryLou Ruiz and Emma Montenegro all swept their singles matches to lead the Crusaders to victory.

College women’s tennis

Long Beach State senior Maeva Razakasoa won her opening singles match at the Oracle ITA Masters tournament in Malibu to advance to Friday’s Round of 16. Razakasoa came from behind and was a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 winner over Lauren Proctor of Winthrop. Razakasoa will face North Carolina’s Sara Daavetlla.
