The Suburban League held its second cross country meet of the season at Cerritos Regional Park where Cerritos took the top two spots in the boys race. However, La Mirada won the meet with five of the top eight finishers and all but clinched a share of the league title. Bill Chuang was first for the Dons with a time of 16:39 and Brandon Vo was the top finisher for the Matadores at 16:49. Cerritos freshman Cole Sawires Yager finished second. The Wilson High girls golf team clinched its eighth consecutive Moore League team title by beating Long Beach Poly 221-247 on Tuesday at Recreation Park Golf Course. Wilson (17-4, 8-0) was once again led by senior Ali Morallos, who made one birdie and finished at 1-over-par 39. Riley Henry added a round of 43 for the Bruins that included four pars, and Maya Olson was the low finisher for Poly with 45. “We continue to be blessed with a group of dedicated players that are always putting in extra work to make sure they are prepared for competition,” Wilson coach Jeff Evans said. Monday is the first day of the Moore League Individual Touament, where Morallos will try to win her third consecutive league title. Last year, she shot 11-under (135) to post the lowest total score in league girls’ golf history. The first nine holes of the individual touament will be at El Dorado Golf Course. Although the game wasn’t against a Division 1 opponent, Poly coach Antonio Pierce loved what he saw from his team in a technically sound, efficient 77-0 drubbing of Cabrillo. “We wanted a week of good, smart, penalty-free physical football,” said Pierce. “We wanted a team win where we performed in all aspects of the game and that’s what we got. Junior running back Al Fisher paced a powerful running game that carried visiting Paramount to a 28-6 victory Friday night over Jordan. Fisher rushed for a game-high 121 yards on 18 carries. He scored a pair of touchdowns. Pierre Robinson Jr., had a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter that was the longest of the game for Paramount. Robinson retued the game’s opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. It was the second time in three weeks that the Jordan special teams unit allowed a touchdown on the opening kickoff. Paramount stretched the lead to 13-0 with a 10-play, 60-yard drive that featured only one pass completion. Fisher plowed into the end zone from the 1-yard line.
